Critters Manuscript Title Change

Manuscript Title Change

(also: Replacing a Ms. with a Completely Different Story)

Manuscript title changing is done manually, so I encourage people NOT to change the title of a manuscript in any way whatsoever. But for cases of typos in the original, or the need to remove one title and replace with another (that is, entirely replacing the ms. with a different piece), etc., please follow the instructions on this page and use this form.

Note that this page is not for resubmitting an updated manuscript where the title remains the same. See the FAQ for information how to replace a manuscript where the title hasn't changed.

Step 1: Check the date. Title changes can't be made within two days before the date (a Wednesday) that the manuscript is scheduled to be sent out.

Step 2: Submit your new manuscript as new, using the usual means (web form, etc.). It should have the new title you want (which is different than the old one, or you wouldn't be using this page :). Do not mark it as a resubmission; it should appear to be a brand new queue submission.

Step 3: Fill out this form:

First, we need your exact email address at which you receive the weekly notices (and manuscripts/critiques, if your preferences so dictate). If you're even one character off, or give the one that Critters is not using, this won't work. Email will be sent to this address confirming your request for a title change, so if you do not receive this email within a short time (give it an hour, say) then this attempt to change a title has failed.

Your (primary) email address:

Now, your critters password, so we know this is really you :)

Password:

Workshop: Critters - Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror
(If this is the wrong workshop, first switch workshops into the correct one.)

Now enter the OLD title of the manuscript in the queue that you wish to change (this must be byte-for-byte the same, so copy&paste from the queue is highly recommended):

Now enter the new title, exactly as you just submitted it (copy&paste again strongly recommended):

Note that if the titles are not exactly as they've been sent into the queue with the "title:" header, this change WILL NOT WORK. (The title is a database record key, and thus must match exactly.)

Ok! You'll hear back from the Critter Captain when he's made the change. Might be a few days, even as long as a week. (Name changes aren't high priorities since they only need to be done before the manuscript is sent out.)
